Spring 2016 Intern Diaries: Entry #1

Hi RRC friends!

My name is Amanda Steinman and I am the new intern at Rick Rountree Communications. I am a junior at Elon University with a  major in strategic communications and a minor in professional sales. After college I hope to pursue a career in public relations, advertising, marketing and event planning.

At Elon, I have had the opportunity to participate in various student organizations on campus. My involvement has allowed me to be a member of a passionate group of people that are working towards a common goal. Currently, I am the director of social media for the largest organization on campus, Elon Volunteers. As director, I have had the opportunity to lead and create campaigns, continually update social media networks and work to create a brand that attracts all Elon University students. Through my efforts I have found that I am passionate about public relations!

I am so excited for my semester-long internship with Rick Rountree Communications. In the past two weeks, I have already learned so much from Lindsay and Rick. They have been great mentors to work with by clearly communicating the tasks I need to complete each day. So far, I have researched the clients of RRC and begun to understand the importance of catering to their needs. Additionally, I have helped Lindsay promote the Southern Ideal Home Show event by publishing the event on local event calendars and newswires.

Over the next few months I am looking forward to learning what daily life is like at an agency. I hope to gain new skills from this internship that I can use in my classes at school and in my future career. I hope to learn as much as I can about the value of PR for clients by working with Lindsay, Rick and RRC’s awesome clients!
